Xiaxue today (as featured on her blog)
XiaXue (which in Chinese means “snowing”) is the pseudonym of Wendy Cheng – the most popular blogger in Singapore. The 26 years old girl has a status of celebrity in her small country and her website has been added to the National Library Board’s list of blogs for archival. In 2005 it was awarded the title of the “Best Asian Blog” and today it drives an envious traffic of (more than) 20,000 daily visitors.
Started in 2003, at the beginning her blog was just an online diary where Xiaxue described her personal life and thoughts on random topics. Due to inarguable literary skills and witty writing style she quickly gained popularity among readers. One might think that – since the author is an attractive young girl – most of her fans are guys. But no. A quick check on Alexa (website which analyzes the traffic statistics on internet) reveals that Xiaxue’s blog is visited more frequently by females who are in the age range 18-24. This post is inspired by one of the best books about love – Erich Fromm’s bestseller “The Art of Loving” written in 1956. I want to apologize in advance that it will be less related to the central topic of my blog – Chinese girls. But it should resonate with people who are willing to learn the art of loving.
The last sentence might confuse some of the readers. Is there anything to learn about loving? And is love an art? Exactly this question opens the book. The author unequivocally proves that loving is an art which can be learned and practiced.
There is a paradox: on one hand we are starving for love and are ready to do everything in order to dive into the pleasant sensations it promises. On another hand majority of people fail time after time, go through a series of heartbreaking experiences, and eventually give up to find true LOVE which would comprise both passion and commitment. "Cute" Chinese Girl
In the discussion of my previous post about Chinabounder’s blog one of commenters mentioned that different forums for expats are full of derogatory comments about Chinese girls. This is true. Being a member of similar sites I know it myself. But instead of “playing a victim card” (using expression from your comments :-) ) I decided to delve into this topic a little bit deeper. So I asked myself: what are the most widespread adjectives used by foreigners to tag Chinese girls? Doing it wasn’t very difficult – and after a short online research I had a list of words most often used to describe Chinese girls. [...click to read more...]

Relationship |
Today I want to make the review of one site which made a lot of buzz when it was active (it hasn’t been updated for about two years now). I am talking about infamous blog “Sex and Shanghai” created by Chinabounder. For those who are not familiar with it – this is a collection of diary-like posts written by an anonymous teacher of English language (who later revealed his identity) in one of Shanghai’s universities. In his blog Chinabounder described in juicy details how he seduced multiple Chinese girls most of whom were his former students. However, differently from other authors of similar content Chinabounder tended to mix the explicit pornography with philosophizing about characteristics of Chinese people, Chinese politics and other topics.
To say the truth I have written the initial draft of this post long time ago (immediately after stumbling upon “Sex in Shanghai” for the first time). But at that time I was too angry to be objective. And I didn’t want to follow the footsteps of Zhang Jiehai – professor of psychology – who wrote an open letter on his site calling for a human flesh search of Chinabounder (which very well might end up in lynch if he wouldn’t flee China in time). Also I am not interested in psychological analysis of Chinabounder’s personality.
Because I found few curious thoughts in his blog and they must be judged without any relation to their author’s morality or mental state. [...click to read more...]

Chinese dating |
Yesterday I decided to get closer to the readers of my blog. I did so by engaging into the activity which at least some of you have been doing (and maybe are still doing) for a while – browsing the profiles of Chinese girls on dating sites.
Wow! That was really interesting. And possibly it will give me some material not only for this but also for few upcoming articles. In this post I want to share my observations related to the way in which Chinese girls describe themselves in the appropriate section of their profiles.
First of all I registered my profile on one of the dating sites. Then I had to imitate the way in which male members search through women’s profiles. Since it’s impossible to embrace all preferences that men have, I decided to perform 6 separate searches – each for a different age group of Chinese females: 18-22 (generation of nineties), 23-28 (generation of eighties), 29-34 (infamous “sheng nu”), 35-40, 41-50 and 50+. For all of them I read only the profiles written in English of females who have a photograph, live in China and are unpaid members. [...click to read more...]
