Yoshiii,

Generally speaking, completely different from dating American girls (I'm also American).  Most (not all) Chinese girls would love to date a guy they're interested in / like / and are attracted to.  However there are two obvious differences for me pertaining to most (again not all) mainland girls.

1. Tradition and / or upbringing

Most mainland girls, no matter how westernized are still generally more conservative.  They are less likely to show a great deal of affection in public (your mileage may vary).  ie: they may hold your hand while walking but will only publicly make out with you in the evening when there aren't too many people walking by.

There are other obvious differences such as what they believe is and isn't acceptable to talk about, how you treat one another, etc.

2. Expectations

If a mainland girl actually actually likes you, depending on her age (think 25 and up) she may have a great expectation that your relationship with her will lead to marriage.  In fact, she'll hope for it and if gutsy enough, will ask you directly.

Most mainland girls are not looking to date for 5 years before talking about marriage and quite frankly, in Chinese society, they are being pressured by parents and friends to tie the knot before they're "considered too old".

Again your mileage may vary but these have been my experiences as well as quite a bit of sharing from local chinese girls who've told me what they feel and expect.  Hope this helps a bit.
