How can I know that it's me she likes and not my passport?

I'm confused.  I hope you can help.

I live in China. I met a woman about 10 days ago while having tea with a mutual friend.  The mutual friend invited the two of us and another friend of hers for a day out.  At the end of the day, the woman said, "我喜欢你wo xihuan ni". Two days later, she invited me to her hometown (she was bringing her mother and sister home after the  holiday). We spent the next few days together and are enjoying each other‘s company.

She asked if I wanted to be her boyfriend and even mentioned exclusivity.  I went along.  No concerns on my part.

When I got back to my city, I met the friend who introduced us and gave her a small gift from the two of us.  She freaked out a little.  She wanted to know what our relationship was (friends, gf/bf) and expressed concerns about her friend's motives.  She told me that they were not old friends, but just knew each other.  She said some Chinese girls are very practical and that maybe she just wanted my passport.

The girl I like is well-established here in China.  She owns her own business and certainly has much more money than me.

Some more info:  She is divorced with an 18-year old son.  I'm about the same age as her.  She lives in another city in China and is just visiting my city for the holidays (she used to live here). She might stay in town (her business can run without her for a while). She has asked me to consider moving to her city when my job contract expires.

I don't want doubts to cloud our relationship.  I like her.  She's delightful.  I'm a nice guy, but I don't really know why she liked me so much after our first meeting.

I don't want to be cynical, but I also don't want grow attached to someone only to be hurt later on.

My question is:

How can I know that it's me she likes and not my passport?

Thanks for your help.

Congrats for having a girlfriend!

From what you wrote, you started to get confused after you met with the friend who introduced you to your girlfriend? She's delightful, and you're a nice guy, and you guys enjoy each other's company… yay : )

Not sure if there's *the* way, or to test her, on whether she likes you for your passport (American?). A very boring cliche-like answer it is, but what can you do other than trusting your gut? I'd say, let the "friend" out of your business, cause, like she said, they're not friends, just know (of?) each other. What could she know afterall? "Chinese girls are very practical".. not sure what she implied by saying that, but if she meant that Chinese girls who like you must be going for your passport…. that'd be insulting.

That's one thing. What surprised me is though, that the girl asked you to be her boyfriend (before you asked her, I presume?). As far as I know, that is kinda rare, although I think it is hot. Why don't you ask her yourself what made her attracted to you? : ) Isn't it always good to hear (honest) compliment and what part of you makes a girl tick? Also, that'd be a very productive way to communicate and confirm the chemistry.

Wish you best to get to know her, and not to get hurt : )
