Since coming to Hong Kong I've noticed a distinction lack of little pink shops selling toys, condoms, oils, illicit dvds and other genitalia paraphernalia *rimshot*
However, you ca find plenty of magazines being sold in alleyways and occasionally some dvd selections. While I do like to indulge, that's not the question I want to ask.
It would seem that toys and oils while available in Hong Kong (LFK Hello!) are no where near as omni-present as in china. In order for these stalls/shops to stay open, they must be making enough of a profit.
So finally my question is where are all the toys going? Have you ever seen or bought any? In the 5 years I was in china, I saw 2 bullet vibrators and 3 -beep-, but that's it. Bought a -beep- as a going away present for an ex who was moving to different province and the 2 bullets one after the other case the first one cracked after being dropped.
So that means of the 5 toys, I only saw 2 that were bought by someone else.
What do you perverts think? Girls are just really good at hiding them or what?
I'm excited to find out.

OfflineI got a friend in Chengdu who has an adult toy shop.. she does not deal in the DVDs but sells heaps of viagra.. generally in either one pill a time (hehe one nighter only) or conversely by the big boxful.. not usually any in between. She also sells the -beep-, rubber dolls etc… I am still trying to work out how she got into that business … I have seen other shops from the outside in different cities.. but one sttod out in Changsha.. it had Chinese and Vietnamese writings on the shop front.

Offlinewhen i was in my wifes city zhuzhou i saw a lot of adult shops i was surprised even in beijing !!!
just so you know i told my wife when she gets to canada we can have fun with -beep- toys !!!
she smiled and said ok !!! hehehe i do not think she has any not that i saw anyways !! i know though she did not run for the door when i mentioned them and did not flinch when i showed her a little piece of a -beep- movie while i was there in china !!
so at least my wife is not ignorant to these things and i sort of felt she did not mind these things !!!
the feeling i got though was a little bit of shyness with her !! in china i think these things are kept very quiet !!!
just what i saw in person if that helps anyone wanting to know !!! hehehe

@ Ian: Your friend is a veritable treasure trove of information that I would love to plunder (wow, totally didn't see that pun till I finished writing it, I AM AWESOME!!!). She would know exactly what demographics buy, what products they favour and maybe even some personal info to fill the back story.
Like I said before, someone is buying and since most of the toys are for girls, I assume that most of them end up with (in?) a girl. Not discounting men though, just love to have some more info on where the toys end up (dear God…. Another one, not as awesome, but still funny).
Anyone else have some insight? Looking like a sausage-fest in here, no offense to anyone.

I will be back there before xmas, actually flying into Chengdu I think… so I might do a bit of
"back door probing" and get some shots of the customers hehe.. Anyway, I have sent email to her now asking for the lurid details 
I am sure some of her toys are actually for men.. plastic dolls, pussies, etc…
Her daughter is disgusted with her shop and never mentions it except as Mum's "shop" with a wry shake of her head… poor thing! Rent is about 150 rmb a week from memory… so she does not need to turn much profit to cover rental…
I got some of those cards that are slipped under the hotel doors.. one hotel had a different card, girl on each side for each night I was there. Pity Crystal isnt here now, she wanted to see them for some thread I think. I also found in some 80 rmb/night bang box in SZ a notepad with some prices in Chinese.. a big list, I could not translate it.. but everything was a flat 70 rmb… I assume it was a price list for various sexual acts.. given that there was a picture of a naked (western) girl on the wall and the genre of the locals around the building. Anyway, I hope to get back with details requested…

for being sort of traditional chinese she sure is a peach and very open minded about many things i think !!! maybe once she trys these things she may not like it but at least she is willing to try and that to me is the most important thing !!!

Re: the messages, that has been explained in part now in another thread here (if it has not been edited or modded out).
As to my friend with the adult shop.. I would think that the answer is rather obvious.. the daughter is embarrassed by the fact that her Mother owns a adult shop and sells -beep-, viagra, rubber dolls, plastic vaginas etc etc. What about if your wife or daughter owned one? Would you go there for a visit, or take your friends there? Try to think about this from a "typical" Chinese perspective (if someone does not like the word "typical" then think about what I mean and substitute your own and get over it). Just imagine the introduction.. "Hey, this is my daughter's shop, she sells -beep- toys! Why don't we go in and meet her, I am sure she will give you a good discount on a nice vibrator.. or what about a butt plug for the wife? Need a demonstration perhaps?"
The huge majority of her customers are men, she does not sell DVDs or magazines (she thinks they are disgusting 
) mostly buy condoms, viagra but a few -beep-. Some women go there and mainly buy condoms. I am not allowed in the shop for long as it scares off her customers. There are full size blow up dolls for sale. Yes, she is a friend… (sigh)
She is quite happy discussing everything about the shop with me but it is difficult for me to get decent figures at moment.. so I can only give generalisms re the customer base. As far as I know, the owner has had a "normal" "conservative" "traditional" Chinese upbringing, having married, then divorced when she produced the wrong gender (now isn't that quite normal in china nowdays?). There is no indication of prostitution or anything like that as far as I can see… she is quite well off, owns a home and also another house there. As I said previously.. I have not yet fathomed this one out.

OfflineI glanced through the open door of my young tenant (a 23 year old female student from China) the other day and saw a pink vibrator on her bed, so I can safely say there is a market happening over there. I guess you all might understand I did not quickly interview her about her choice of -beep- toy and who bought it, her or boyfriend, and where and how much it was. I can only imagine her embarrassment if she knew I saw it.
Good for her though, with her boyfriend still in China the frustration would be palpable…
