We get alot of questions about Chinese girls on our Formspring page. A Taiwan origin Chinese girls & relationship expert YHC, currently studying abroad for a year, tries to answer some of your recent questions.
Q: Are they ever angry about the double standard of being forced to be “good” and “pure” while the men can generally do whatever they want?
A: No, I am enjoying being a woman. Most of time I am good and pure, but i know how bad and mean i can be.
Also, we’ve perfected the art of appearing as though we’re pleasing and appeasing while most of the time we’re actually very much in control of things, much more so than men. Only thing is, men live in their lalaland and don’t realize this.
Q: Do Chinese women like to be called “pet names” baby, dear, honey? Do Chinese women call their BF by “pet names”? Seems natural for me to call her by various terms of endearment but she does not refer to me this way. I am American if that is significant.
A: Yes, i like it.
but “baby, dear, honey” just doesn’t fit me, coz they are English. I prefer to call my BF Chinese pet names. like 寶貝、親愛的 or his nick names. But if he is a foreigner, I don’t mind to be called pet names in English. My xBF called me BB, means baby.
But different girls have different preferences, why not ask her?
Q: What does it mean when a Chinese girl feeds me my food does she like me or just being nice.
A: Interesting question. I think this is really one of those things about girls you’re more likely to see in China (/Asia) than anywhere else. My guess would be that she likes you and she definitely wants to be nice to you. But it depends. For some girls, this is a very intimate behavior; for some girls, they just want to play/ flirt with you. But overall this does seem to suggest some level of intimacy or atleast her wanting to reach out to you.
Q: A very happy new year of good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity to all the young women of china! ;D I’d love to know how modern chinese girls will be celibrating the start of the year of the dragon !???
A: Happy Dragon Year! For me, Chinese New Year is more like a family festival, so I prefer to stay with my family or visit relative during CNY. Since this year I am abroad, I made a Chinese New Year dinner for my friends here, and explained the tradition of CNY to them. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any red envelop this year.
