It’s time to temporarily switch from serious contemplations about the meaning of love and look at the topic of attraction from another angle.

Blogging about Chinese girls and receiving comments from foreign men who seem to be interested in this subject might create an illusion that Chinese men should feel worried about laowai (foreigners) “stealing” their women.

And although there definitely are men who go exceptionally after Chinese girls (Yellow Fever) – let’s see what kind of statistics we can get from google.

In the table below, I compiled figures showing the endangerment index (EI) (invented by me :-) ) for girls from different countries. This index was calculated by (1) taking an approximate number of global monthly searches on google for the phrases which include the  keywords of interest (2) then dividing it by population of the country which represents the girls’ national homeland (3) and finally multiplying the result by 1000.

Keyword pairs were the following. First I took the name of country in combination with the word “girls”. Then from the name of country I derived the adjective standing for nationality and again appended “girls” to it. The same process was repeated for the word “brides”. Thus, for China, statistics for the following keyword phrases were taken in account: “China girls” + “Chinese girls” to calculate the “Girls” endangerment index and “China brides” + “Chinese brides” to calculate the “Brides” endangerment index.

Countries themselves I chose basing on the collection of dating sites owned by Cupid Media, the leader in international online dating industry (Chinese Love Links – which already provided some material for one of my previous articles – is one of their sites). For example, besides ChineseLoveLinks they also have AussieCupid, BrazilCupid and so on. Correspondingly I gathered statistics for China, Australia, Brazil etc.

Well, as you can see, Chinese girls are among the least endangered. It’s very interesting to note that if you check only the number of searches for “girls” – then Japanese girls are the clear leaders (does anyone know why? :roll: ). However, after adding the EI for “brides” they are surpassed by Russian girls. Actually, according to these statistics the term “Russian brides” might have a status of idiomatic expression. Second place for “brides endangerment index” belongs to Ukraine. It’s very curious, by the way, that both Russia and Ukraine are the only countries in this list that actually have a demographic crisis. So they do have a reason for worries.

What is the point of my post anyway? Well, if one day someone says that foreigners steal Chinese girls – you can refer to statistics gathered by Crystal Tao and prove them wrong :-) .

    I follow your maths, but I just don’t understand why the numbers are the way they are. But then, if I were not partial to my Chinese lady, I would not even be on this site, would I? :-)

      You are right – I did not explain the source of my figures very well.

      There is such tool which is called Google Keyword Tool. It can help you to determine the amount of searches performed on any keyword (or combination of keywords). This information can serve as indicator of popularity.

      Now… for international dating – internet is the most used media today. So, naturally, from the above-mentioned tool it is possible to get an information on how many people are searching for “Chinese girls”, “Japanese girls” or “Russian girls”.

      The third column contains the number of global monthly searches for “XXX + girls” phrase, where XXX stands for “China” or “Chinese”; “Japan” or “Japanese”; “Russia” or “Russian” and so on.

        I understand what you did. I understand how you obtained your results. I just don’t understand WHY so few people (relatively) are looking for Chinese girls. :-)

        I’m VERY partial to my little Chinese angel, so I can’t imagine why more men wouldn’t be looking for a Chinese girl. Even the pictures you posted, that Chinese girl is so much prettier than the blonde. (Actually, the blonde is not even pretty in my eyes.)

            I would never, EVER harm a lady. Never.

            (Sorry – that’s a sore topic for me. My only sister was severely beaten and raped by her first husband and almost didn’t survive. I was always raised to believe that a man should never, EVER hit a woman. Women are always to be treated with gentleness and respect, and with tender care. It is a man’s duty to protect his lady, not hurt her. That doesn’t mean to lock her away from the rest of the world like they do in some countries, but it does mean that a man should immediately and without hesitation put himself in harm’s way to protect his lady from any harm. I would not hesitate to step between my lady and a moving vehicle to protect her from injury. I know because I have done it.

          If you look closely, Nick, I think you will find that neither of them are particularly good-looking.

          Yes, the ‘Russian’ girl is definitely not attractive as far as I am concerned.

          However the ‘Chinese’ model(not sure if she’s actually Chinese)has that dreadful sallow skin that develops when you spend all your time hiding from the sun and putting chemical whiteners on your body, and she is simpering in that way that says “Look how feminine I am”, when actually it just serves to make people nauseous.

    I found a couple of interesting things surfing for info on this topic. First of all, about 40% of Asians in America marry whites. This percentage has remained steady for 30 years, and is higher than that of other major American minorities (Hispanics, African-Americans) — so maybe there is something to the Asian-Western attraction.

    Second, with regard to foreigners “stealing” Chinese women, I found this quote, which I think expresses both the difficulties with intercultural relationships, and one reason why modern Asian women end up with Western men (and contains perhaps a good lesson for Asian men):

    “Hai Nguyen, 37, of Houston recalls the instant connection she felt after meeting her first Vietnamese boyfriend, Greg, in college. Nguyen says while she had to explain herself to white boyfriends, with Greg it was a feeling that “he so gets me, because we eat the same food, we like the same things, our families know each other and there is so little that needs to be said.”

    With the enthusiastic support of her parents, she and Greg married. But their connection soon began to fade, due partly to Nguyen’s budding career as a business analyst, which clashed with more traditional expectations for her to “always have fresh food on the table.” The two divorced and Nguyen is now remarried to Jon, who is white.”

    This is from an AP report entitled “Interracial Marriage Still Rising, But Not As Fast” which anyone can Google and find.

    Personally, I never considered a relationship with a foreigner other than Chinese, for reasons having to do with a lifelong appreciation for the culture.

      Here is one quote from Wikipedia on interracial marriages in U.S. – I really like it!

      Social enterprise research by the Columbia Business School (2005–2007) concluded that while East Asian women statistically prefer East Asian men for marriage, they show no discrimination against White men, causing Asian women-White men pairings to consistently become the prevalent form of interracial dating in the United States. The study found the phenomenon to be the result of a (sociologically) unique and mutual neutrality East Asian women and White men tend to show each other as potential partners, rather than due to the pronounced preference of either side.

        Is that really unique? I think there’s a similar thing going on between black men and white women in many countries. The ratio of black male-white female vs black female-white male relationships is also nearly 3:1, which is similar to the ratio in white-asian couples.

        BUT… I think that this (and the parent comments) only really apply to the US, or possibly some other Western countries, not China. “Chinese girls” can have different meanings, but this blog seems to be about people from China itself. The culture of Chinese-Americans is probably closer to other Americans than to people from China.

        By the way, did you know that male Chinese citizens are quite a bit more likely than women to marry a foreigner? It’s true, you can check it at the government’s statistics site. The difference is that the men usually marry girls from other Asian countries like Vietnam.

    My Chinese wife will occasionally mock a Japanese wife with little mincing steps and bowing as she serves me. It’s done with sarcasm and is meant to say ‘if you ever want a servant for a wife – forget it!’ (poor me)

    Well, the fact that japanese woman are sought after above others is because of this very perception – that they put you on a pedestal, serve you sweetly, and know how to treat a man. Whether this is true or not, I have no experience.

    But I think that is the perception many Americans have, and I would guess that most other nationalities are similar in perception.

      I dated a Japanese girl back in my undergraduate years (in the 1980s). They’re not all like that, trust me, but she was a bit of a rebel and was 10 years my senior, so being unmarried at her age (28) automatically put her in the “odd” category for a Japanese lady.

      I still feel that, on average, Chinese girls are the prettiest and the most attractive (not the same thing). In my experience, they present a wonderful combination of strength and femininity, like a steel rod wrapped in flowers. I’ve dated women from many nations, and the Chinese ladies have always been the most appealing to me because of their independence, intelligence, and genuine femininity.

    I could be wrong here but I think there are 2 major reasons Japanese girls are sought after. Firstly the whole Manga and Japanese video game interest amongst certain categories of young men in the West. Secondly, the perception, from certain ‘blue videos’ that Japanese girls are (how shall I put this politely ?) “sexually adventurous” – which, is, of course, another stereotype.

    Talking of stereotypes, there is another amongst unthinking Westerners that all girls from East Asia are servile. This is, of course, completely untrue, but I don’t think it is just applied to Japanese women.

      Jap is more develped than China so girls have better education, better jobs, better English, so easier to get a job after relocating and the jobs are also higher paying

      Generall speaking, from a how many magazines will sticking a face on the cover sell standpoint, Jap girls are more attractive. Lots of Chinese girls have square flat faces and thin hair. Boobs, average Jap cup size seems to be just slightly larger than China, but a higher % of Jap girs have big Bs to small Cs using US measurements (not sure if China uses the same) and Jap’s biggest cup sizes are way larger than China’s cup sizes

      Jap girls also seem to be easier going and more laid back

        The statements I made above were qualified, I was pointing out that most of these ideas are stereotypes. It seems to me that you are taking stereotypes and quoting them as facts. From my experience, the English skills of Japanese people are not usually better than those of Chinese (but I need to emphasise that this is MY experience, and I am perfectly prepared to be proved wrong by evidence).

        You witter on about numbers of magazines being sold by Japanese versus Chinese faces (again, statistical evidence, please). I am unconvinced by this statement – firstly (and unfortunately), an awful lot of people in the West just see an ‘Asian’ face, most are unable to tell the difference, secondly a beautiful face is a beautiful face, no matter which country it comes from. I am sure the girls with ‘square flat faces and thin hair’ (who they, btw ? I’ve never met any) are unlikely to be chosen as models anyhow.

        In addition, your whole schtick about breast size denotes a slightly unhealthy obsession. Do you have a mother fixation, by any chance ?

          English – avg Jap person has more exposure to English than avg Chinese, more japs are college educated, there are more foreign companies, advertisements, tv shows, etc. From talking to xchange students its generally easier to understand jap students. Heard the word Chinglish? Ever seen a Chinglish signs? Ever hear of Japlish or seen a Japlish sign? Sure it happens, it happens everywhere but less often in Jap

          Mags – Haven’t done any studies myself and haven’t heard of any studies but look at domestic and international advertising and modeling, print and runway. Do you agree that sex sells? Do you agree that agencies and companies prefer pretty/sexy/hot/gorgeous/cute/adorable/etc people over average or ugly people? If yes, how many Chinese, Vietmese, Korean, Cambodian, etc models have you seen on US/European runways, ads, TV shows, or movies? Now compare that to Jap #s. Or you can go to some US/European modeling agency sites and see just exactly how many Chinese models they have listed vs Jap models. Or, if youve been to China you know EU models are all over billboards, print ads, tv commercials, and product packagins. Not as much for Jap models but theres still some. Now go to Japan? How often do you see a Chinese on Jap TV, billboard, magazine? Or Google. How many Chinese sites/forums/blogs are there dedicted to Jap or EU girls? How many Jap or US sites/forums/blogs are there dedicated to Chinese girls

          Boobs – its the simple truth. Can’t fucking care less if the truth hurts your feelings. Political correctness is killing this world

          If you think I have a bias against the Chinese then I don’t. I think Crystal is quite attractive, WAY more than XiaXue, not even close. My last gf was Chinese. Could be outrageously adorbale and cute. Had an amazingly incredible smile, way better than any celeb

            Even in China itself Chinese models became competitive only recently. So it could be just due to the lack of experience in the modeling business.

            Here is the quote from the Daily China article “Model workers”:
            When China Daily interviewed Klueva [Russian model in Shanghai] last year, she said foreign models were on their way out as China’s growing economic clout allowed local brands to trumpet their own cultural assets, feline-looking women and cherubic men, to sell their products in Europe – as opposed to the traditional reliance on foreign face value.

            Now she claims Chinese models are getting paid “at least double” their foreign counterparts.

            First of all, the breasts comment was nothing to do with hurt feelings. I just don’t understand anyone who constantly goes on about ‘big ones’, and there is psychological evidence that men obsessed with big breasts are regressing back to babyhood and breastfeeding – hence mother fixation. I also just think it’s very silly to judge women on their breast sizes. Also, does a woman’s prettiness or otherwise REALLY count on her having big breasts ? Plus, if we take into account your comment regarding modelling, it is interesting to note that most fashion models tend not to be particularly busty.

            As David pointed out, there is Engrish. Plus, the Chinglish signs in China tend to be put up by people who cannot be bothered to pay a proper translator and just go to the nearest Chinese-English dictionary and pick the first definition. It is more of an economic issue than that of how widespread English speaking is. Again, I would say that, from my experience, there are more Chinese people that I have met with good English than Japanese people.

            I tried Googling internationally famous Japanese models, the only name that came up was Devon Aoki. She’s half white and, nationality-wise, American (born and grew up, mainly, in New York). Perhaps you would like to enlighten me regarding names. And I don’t mean names of Adult Video stars, btw. As Crystal rightly points out, the relative numbers of models is due to the relative maturity of the market rather than anything else.

            I also think that you will find that there are more internationally renowned Chinese (whether that be mainland, Hong Kong, or Taiwan) female film stars than Japanese film stars.

            I’m not entirely convinced that the dedication of forums is necessarily an indicator of widespread knowledge of something. Often it is an indicator that a few people have an obsessive interest in a particular topic.

    There’s a book called MicroTrends – which is like a Starbucks version of Freakonomics or Tipping Point – and in that book the writer talks about the ratio of inter-racial couples. He says the highest number of inter-racial marriages is between a black man and a white woman and between a white man and an Asian woman.
    This guy was probably paid 1000′s of dollars to come up with this information that every person with an IQ higher than your average kitchen table knows. How stupid.
    I have my own reasons why these inter-racial marriages occur and I’m sure many others would agree with me. It’s hardly rocket science.

    There are 2 groups of models, runway and everything else. Runway models tend to have small boobs. Everything else models are just the opposite

    I don’t care about celebs. I honestly don’t think JLo, Megan Fox, Kardashians, etc are hot, ESPECIALLY THE Kardashians. Last time I went to China I was asked to help identify a bunch of pics.         Firstly, the article Crystal quoted was not particularly great. It tended to look at the lowest end of the model market. But it does not take away from my point regarding internationally recognized Japanese models and market maturity. By the way, you talk about ‘name searches’ but you have not, again, given me a SINGLE FUCKING NAME OF A JAPANESE MODEL TO SEARCH (see, we can both play the swearing game, fuckwit).

        Yes, there is a cult of the ‘big boob’ that has grown up, mainly due to the media and people with shit for brains. Unfortunately, this plays to female insecurities, hence the popularity of breast enhancement (surgical or non-surgical). Strangely, I like boobs too, I just don’t see the need for them to be massive. But, you know, if you want women to have droopy, oversized, veiny flesh-sacks on their chest, who am I to deny you ? In addition, you say there is no ‘breast flattening’, but breast reduction surgery is on the increase.

        More to the point, where is your proof that the breast size of Japanese women is more, on average, than Chinese ? Many of the Japanese girls I have met have been relatively flat. Again, I’m not saying that my experience is the reality, but this is what you seem to be saying. You insult and scream that you are right, but with no fucking evidence.         Regarding the actresses I named, I was saying they were internationally recognised, I did not say they were in Western movies all the time. Yes, many people would not be able to name them. But then many people would not be able name or recognise many actresses from many western countries.         You also made sweeping generalisations about the relative beauty of Japanese and Chinese girls. Again, where’s your fucking evidence, twatface ?!     Reason I swear is I can’t stand fake unrealistic people. This is why I’ve turned down jobs that pay almost double what I’m making now while working slightly less hours

    If we want to inject some facts into the discussion about breast. In Australia the number of breast enlargements is roughly half the number of breast reductions.

    Many women feel too large after having children or even just felt too large generally, and with issues such as ongoing back pain from the weight pulling forward they are far more likely to take actual surgery as an option than a girl who simply feels that she would like to be bigger up front.

    In my experience with Asian girlfriends the Japanese are pretty easy going and not too hard to relate too, however the Chinese I have dated have been probably smarter and more driven in their personality. However this is a very narrow sample size and they have all been in Australia already so they tended to be quite intelligent and well educated with at least a Masters, as I do not go for the rich parents sending the kids here type of girl. If any problem I found with the Chinese girls is that some of them are quite driven but also very expecting, believing that a man should look after them and in some cases they are greedy.
    Anyway I am sure I will find a woman close to perfect soon enough, greedy is a relationship killer in my books, I can accept a lot of failings, as I am not perfect either.

    Yes the whole ‘greed is good’ thing is a definite turn off. Girls from the provinces are less like this though. I did meet a girl from QingDao who was by far one of the greediest, materialistic women I’ve ever known, but she is a rarity I think. Most Chinese girls from the provinces are not like this.
    Many Shanghai girls ARE like this. They buy into their own publicity of being ‘Shanghai Princess’ so they do this willingly and without shame. So now, many of these girls are victims of their own making – left alone, 30+ and watching American drama series on their laptops perched on the end of their beds in their mum and dads house. Tragic and yet deserving.

    My exwife was a Shanghai girl. 17 yrs ago before they really started to become such primadonnas. She was a sweet woman yet her expectations were too high for any man to live up to. At the time she left me for university I only had my Associates degree. So I figuired I’de get my Bachelors degree and win her back with my amazing academic skills. Actually did pretty well, worked full time while earning a respectable 3.0 at a private university. But once a Chinese woman makes up her mind there is no changing it.     While this is a minor point, “Yellow fever” isn’t “foreigners” going after Chinese girls, it’s non-Asian (usually white) guys going after Asian girls, lol. There are other countries in East Asia besides China! In fact, a lot of guys with an Asian fetish prefer Japanese girls for whatever reason.
